Microcosm | Award for Innovation in Music

November 2021

The theme of AIM 2021 was "Future Forrest" relating to the issue of global warming. Anna and Harmoney Lee collaborated with experiential designer Josh Baptista to create "Microcosm" - a performance combining classical music, visual arts, and plant music. By creating a sensor that could pick up the electromagnetism in plants, with that data they generated interactive music which was incorporated into the performance, thus mixing the music of classical piano and plants. With this project they wanted to provoke the audience to reflect on their relationship with nature and the importance of preserving it, what if nature could speak? It already is, one can see it in the extremes in the weather, which will only increase with climate change.

What if we really listened to nature?

Renascence | Award for Innovation in Music

November 2020

Renascence is a story-telling performance in collaboration between Icelandic pianist, Anna Þórhildur Gunnarsdóttir and Canadian designer, Harmoney Lee. By combining visual medium and piano compositions “Torrek” and “Reverie” by Icelandic composer Jón Leifs, the audience will be guided through stories of collected Covid-19 experiences. The Icelandic word "Torrek" translates to an irreparable loss. A deeply melancholic piece, climaxing at a grotesque expression of pain. In contrast, “Reverie” is flowing and dreamlike, it gives a sense of hope and optimism. Reflective of dormant live performances due to current social distancing, this will be one small step towards connecting people through music and story.

KAFARI - February 2020

Fourth track on the album Plastprinsessan by K.óla, the album revolves around the Plastic Princess that lives in a plastic paradise. It’s a contemplation on a surveillance society, social media image, the invention of plastic and environmental issues. Kafari is a „calm and flowing song that dives deep down to the ocean floor and then reemerges up in the waves.”
