Icelandic pianist Anna Þórhildur Gunnarsdóttir emphasises innovation and an interdisciplinary approach in her performances.
With the Canadian designer Harmoney Lee, they made it twice to the finals of the innovation prize of Conservatorium Maastricht; AIM – Award for Innovation in Music. In the year 2020 they made the video project „Renascence“, which is based on the music of Icelandic composer Jón Leifs and illustrated stories of people from the Covid-19 pandemic. In the year 2021 they performed the piece „Microcosm”, where they created interactive music with the conductivity of houseplants, and combined that in a performance of Clair de lune by Claude Debussy.
Over the course of her career Anna has received many prizes and scholarships, i.e. from the Memorial Fund of Heimir Klemenzson and the Henrïette Hustinx, which is awarded to a graduating student of Conservatorium Maastricht who excels in their field and is full of promise for the future.
Anna graduated with a B.Mus degree in piano performance from the Iceland University of the Arts, under the guidance of Peter Máté and Edda Erlendsdóttir. Anna has a MA in piano performance from the Conservatorium Maastricht under the guidance of Katia Veekmans.
